10 Days Tour - "Amazing Land of Lanna"
This comprehensive tour through Northern Thailand gives you a great insight of the land of the Lanna Kingdom- the "Kingdom of a Million Rice Fields". After setting off from Chiang Mai, we will ride the winding road up to DoiInthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand, where it is usually very cool. We visit theLong Neck Women of Kayan, famous for wearing brass rings around their necks, and ride up to the the border of Myanmar to visit in Ban Rak Thai a Chinese community who settled here. Along the way we ride all of the1,864 curves from Mae Hong Sonto Mae Taeng, a route becoming legendary amongst motorcyclists, and you can buy the T-shirt to prove it ! We will explore the region taking mainly small rural roads, which are not so well known. Along the way we visit some of the lesser known treasures like misty Mae Hong Son with its charming lakeside Burmese temple, mysterious Nan,which for centuries remained autonomous and cut off from the outside world as well as the unique village of Bo Klueawith it's salt wells. We will also go to rather more famous or infamous places like the Golden Triangle, where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet and where in previous decades the opium poppy provided a living to many people until it was stopped after the death of Khun San, a legendary drug lord. We will visit the small laid back city of Chiang Rai, home to the stunning artwork of the Temple known as Wat Rong Khun inlaid with thousands of pieces of mirror. The riding on this tour is exhilarating with plenty of mountains and thousands of bends throughout the trip but we also hope that this tour will give you a closer insight in local cultures and traditions and -of course- the delicious local cuisine.
The roads are mostly easy to ride but there are some steep and technically demanding stretches. You must be able to handle a motorcycle and do not expect to learn how to ride while on this tour. We aim to ride on average of 170 – 300 km's per day which leaves ample time for relaxing, dining and sightseeing.
The tour starts and ends in Chiang Mai, the largest city in Northern Thailand, some 700 km's north of Bangkok. Chiang Mai has great hotels and facilities and is easy to access by road or air especially from Bangkok. International air services also connect Chiang Mai with other regions of Southeast Asia.

DAY BY DAY
(B/L/D) = (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
1. Day / Chiang Mai (-/-/D)
In the evening you meet your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner and a tour presentation and motorcycle handover. We will discuss the itinerary, basic group riding rules and about the local riding environment, and answer any questions that you may have. We will stay overnight in Chiang Mai.
2. Day / Chiang Mai - Doi Inthanon - Mae Hong Son (B/L/D)
In the morning you will have time to familiarize yourself with your motorcycle before we set off. We start our tour from Chiang Mai and after about 50 km we leave the Highway and spend the rest of the day on exhilarating twisty rural roads. Our first stop is at the Vachiratharn Waterfall - an impressive and powerful 80 m high waterfall. We then proceed the climb to the top of Doi Inthanon, which at 2,565 meters is the highest mountain in Thailand. After a local lunch in Mae Chaem we continue to the City of the “Three Mists”, otherwise known as Mae Hong Son which is located along the banks of the Pai River close to the border with Myanmar (formerly Burma). We stay overnight in Mae Hong Son. (Distance: 300 km / 186 miles).
3. Day / Mae Hong Son - Ban Rak Thai - Pai (B/L/D)
In the morning we take a pleasant boat ride on Pai River to visit a Karen Long Neck village. The Karen, a tribal minority, historically lived in the hills on the Myanmar side of the border. Some of their women wear heavy brass rings around their necks, forearms, and shins. We then set out for the famously chic town of Pai on the beginning of the road famous for having 1864 bends of varying sharpness. The road passes through some beautiful mountainous scenery. On the way we do a little side trip to Ban Rak Thai (literally "the Thai-loving village"), built around a lake on the Myanmar border. About 800, mainly Chinese settled here after the communist takeover of China and some of the buildings have a distinctively Chinese appearance. In the afternoon we arrive in Pai and relax in our hotel before we dine on delicious local or western food in a restaurant by the river. In the evening after dinner you can enjoy the delights of the Walking Street market. We stay overnight in Pai. (Distance: 170 km / 105 miles).
4. Day / Pai - Doi Angkhang - Thaton (B/L/D)
Another great riding day is ahead of us and in the morning we complete the “remaining” 762 twisties over the mountains to Mae Taeng. From here we follow the Freeway for a short while before we turn left up on a steep zigzagging asphalt road to Doi Angkhang. Anghhang Royal Agricultural Station is a research project for planting fruit trees, vegetables and other crop under the patronage of the King. In the afternoon we reach Thaton, a small town on the banks of the Kok River, bordering with Myanmar. Before we check in our hotel we can enjoy a splendid view from Wat Thaton over the town and the vicinity. We stay overnight in Thaton. (Distance: 300 km / 185 miles).
5. Day / Thaton - Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai (B/L/D)
The first part of today’s route will take us along gentle hills through rice paddies and farm villages. We follow the Kok River for a while before we turn left to drive up to Doi Mae Salong on yet more amazingly twistie mountainous roads. Doi Mae Salong is a Chinese settlement which was built by a division of the Chinese Nationalist Army that refused to surrender to Chinese communists after the Nationalist Kuomintang government was routed in 1949. Today the village still offers a native Chinese cuisine, lovely houses with flowers and countless tea plantations as far as the eyes can see. We continue cruising towards the mighty Mekong River to the legendary Golden Triangle where the three borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. We swap the motorcycles for a boat and explore the river region. We even take a short break in Laos (no visa needed) before returning to our motorbikes. We then take the short trip to Chiang Rai via the Freeway. We stay overnight in Chiang Rai. (Distance: 190 km / 120 miles).
6. Day / Chiang Rai (Rest Day) (B/-/-)
This is a rest day. Enjoy a healthy breakfast in the hotel and spend the day at the pool or in the Spa. You may also take a walk exploring the town to visit some of the many markets and temples such as the remarkable Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) which is today recognized as one of the main attractions all over Thailand. A walk is likely needed after all the great riding hours. We stay overnight in Chiang Rai.
7. Day / Chiang Rai - Nan (B/L/D)
We leave Chiang Rai and make our way through the hinterland on small back roads in south-eastern direction. We pass through rice fields and fruit plantations and cruise through small farm villages. After our local lunch the ride becomes more and more spectacular. For the next hundred km or so we ride through countless bends through yet more beautiful landscapes. We rejoin the main road again and follow it to our final destination of the day which is the capital of Nan province and is also called Nan. For centuries Nan was a separate, autonomous Kingdom with few relationships to the outside world. Now, the city is a beautiful town with many well preserved temples. For bikers the area is a little known treasure. We stay overnight in Nan. (Distance: 240 km / 150 miles).
8. Day / Nan - Bo Kluea - Nan (B/L/D)
Without any doubt the road to Bo Kluea offers some of the best riding in all of Thailand. A classic twisting road on almost empty roads will make this day an unforgettable riding experience. The tiny village of Bo Kluea is located in a scenic valley close to the Lao border - remote and picturesque. “Bo Kluea” means salt well as the village has raised around two natural saltwater wells which have been used for centuries. In the early afternoon we are back in Nan to visit the most beautiful temple, Wat Phumin. The temple was built as if it were on the back of two immense snakes. We will spend the evening at an authentic local restaurant on the bank of the Nan River. We will overnight in Nan. (Distance: 200 Km / 125 miles).
9. Day / Nan - Chiang Mai (B/L/D)
After breakfast we drive from Nan in a western direction. During the last day of our motorcycle tour we cruise once again hilly roads via Phayao to Chiang Mai. In Phayao we enjoy a nice lunch by the lake before we arrive back in Chiang Mai in the afternoon, in time to get ready for our farewell dinner. We end the day together with our new friends, sharing good riding memories and looking at some of the pictures from our adventures of the last few days. We will overnight in Chiang Mai. (Distance: 300 km / 185 miles).
10. Day / Chiang Mai - onwards (B/-/-)
Transfer to Chiang Mai International Airport.
