Some of their women wear heavy brass rings around their necks, forearms, and shins. You then set out for the famously chic town of Pai on the beginning of the road famous for having 1864 bends of varying sharpness.
The road passes through some beautiful mountainous scenery. If the weather is fjne you may do a little side trip to Ban Rak Thai (literally "the Thai-loving village"), built around a lake on the Myanmar border. About 800, mainly Chinese settled here after the communist takeover of China and some of the buildings have a distinctively Chinese appearance. In the afternoon you arrive in Pai and can relax in your hotel before you may dine in one of the various restaurants. After dinner you can enjoy the delights of the Walking Street market. Another great riding day is ahead of you and in the morning you complete the “remaining” 762 twisties over the mountains to Mae Taeng. From here you follow the Freeway for a short while before you turn left up on a steep zigzagging asphalt road to Doi Angkhang. Anghhang Royal Agricultural Station is a research project for planting fruit trees, vegetables and other crop under the patronage of the King.

5. Day / Thaton - Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai (B/-/-)
The first part of today’s route will take you along gentle hills through rice paddies and farm villages. You follow the Kok River for a while before you turn left to drive up to Doi Mae Salong on yet more amazingly twistie mountainous roads. Doi Mae Salong is a Chinese settlement which was built by a division of the Chinese Nationalist Army that refused to surrender to Chinese communists after the Nationalist Kuomintang government was routed in 1949. Today the village still offers a native Chinese cuisine, lovely houses with flowers and countless tea plantations as far as the eyes can see. You continue cruising towards the mighty Mekong River to the legendary Golden Triangle where the three borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. If you like you can swap the motorcycles for a boat and explore the river region.
You may even take a short break in Laos (no visa needed) before returning to your motorbike. You then take a short trip to Chiang Rai via the Freeway. You stay overnight in Chiang Rai. (Distance: 190 km / 120 miles).

This is a rest day. Enjoy a healthy breakfast in the hotel and spend the day at the pool or in the Spa. You may also take a walk exploring the town to visit some of the many markets and temples such as the remarkable Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) which is today recognized as one of the main attractions all over Thailand.
A walk is likely needed after all the great riding hours. You stay overnight in Chiang Rai.
7. Day / Chiang Rai - Nan (B/-/-)
You leave Chiang Rai and make your way through the hinterland on small back roads in south-eastern direction. You pass rice fields and fruit plantations and cruise through small farm villages. After a recommended local lunch with a view, the ride becomes even more spectacular. For the next hundred km or so you ride through countless bends through yet more beautiful landscapes. You rejoin the main road again and follow it to your final destination of the day which is the capital of Nan province and is also called Nan.
For centuries Nan was a separate, autonomous Kingdom with few relationships to the outside world. Now, the city is a beautiful town with many well preserved temples. For bikers the area is a little known treasure. You stay overnight in Nan. (Distance: 240 km / 150 miles).
8. Day / Nan - Bo Kluea - Nan (B/-/-)
Without any doubt the road to Bo Kluea offers some of the best riding in all of Thailand. A classic twisting road on almost empty roads will make this day an unforgettable riding experience.
The tiny village of Bo Kluea is located in a scenic valley close to the Lao border - remote and picturesque. “Bo Kluea” means salt well as the village has raised around two natural saltwater wells which have been used for centuries. In the early afternoon you are back in Nan and may visit the most beautiful temple, Wat Phumin. The temple was built as if it were on the back of two immense snakes. You will overnight in Nan (Distance: 200 Km / 125 miles).
9. Day / Nan - Chiang Mai (B/-/-)
