(we recommend to arrive in Chiang Mai, no later than 1 pm). At 3 pm transfer to Bike Tour Asia for a welcome briefing, answer any questions you might have and motorcycle hand over. A short ride back to your hotel followed by a common dinner. Please plan your arrival to Chiang Mai accordingly. Overnight in Chiang Mai.
We start our guided Thailand motorcycle tour and after only a few minutes we have left Chiang Mai behind and follow the first amazing corners of the Samoeng Loop. We pass the Mae Sa Elephant Camp where we can stop to visit the amazing animals.
From here we make our way north firs on back roads than on the main provincial road. Lunch by the limestone cliffs at Chiang Dao. We continue following the Thai & Myanmar border. There are a couple of scenic stops on the way. In the afternoon we reach Thaton, a small town on the banks of the Kok River, bordering with Myanmar.
Enjoy a splendid view from Wat Thaton over the town and the vicinity. We continue to the nearby resort. Enjoy a cold drink and stretch your legs by the pool. Overnight Thaton.
(230 km/143 miles)
We leave Thaton and ascend to Doi Mae Salong on amazing twisty mountainous roads. Doi Mae Salong is a Chinese settlement which was built by a division of the Chinese Nationalist Army that refused to surrender to Chinese communists after the Nationalist Kuomintang government was routed in 1949. Today the village still offers a native Chinese cuisine, lovely houses with flowers and countless tea plantations as far as the eyes can see, making it a worthy addition to this scenic Thailand motorcycle tour.
We proceed through farm villages along rice paddies and stop at the impressive Choui Fong Tea House. The tea house of this huge plantation serves all kind of different tea blends and great cakes. Enjoy the scenery!
We continue our guided Thailand motorcycle tour to the legendary Golden Triangle where the three borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Here we drive up to the Wat Sop Ruak temple to enjoy a great view over the Golden Triangle. In the small but interesting local Opium Museum, we can learn more about Khun Sa and the opium trade in the past. Before we reach Chiang Khong we stop at the View Coffee, an amazing spot overlooking the Mekong River. Overnight in Chiang Khong.
(220 km/137 miles)
We ride through some scenic mountain landscapes with plenty of twisties up to Phu Chi Fah. Phu Chi Fa is located on the border between Thailand and Laos. It’s a great ride up here - the scenery is spectacular with lots of photo opportunities. Since Phu Chi Fa is fairly remote, there are not many tourists who make it to this part of Thailand. If time permits and the weather clear, we will ride up to the view point and can walk to the cliff on the border to Laos.
We continue to Phulangka and for the next hundred km or so we ride through countless bends through yet more beautiful landscapes. We rejoin the main road again and follow it to our final destination of the day which is the capital of Nan province and is also called Nan. For centuries Nan was a separate, autonomous Kingdom with few relationships to the outside world. Now, the city is a beautiful town with many well-preserved temples. Overnight in Nan.
(300 km/186 miles)
Without any doubt, the road to Bo Kluea offers some of the best ridings in all of Thailand, and is an umissable experience on our guided Thailand motorcycle tour. Classic twisty roads with almost no traffic will make this day unforgettable riding experience on our scenic Thailand motorcycle tour. The tiny village of Bo Kluea is located in a scenic valley close to the Lao border - remote and picturesque. Bo Kluea means salt well as the village has raised around two natural saltwater wells which have been used for centuries. From here we cross over the mountain through Phu National Park. Enjoy the stunning scenery and empty roads.
Once crossed the mountains we take a break at a rather unique coffee place. In the early afternoon, we are back in Nan to visit the most beautiful temple, Wat Phumin. The temple was built as if it were on the back of two immense snakes. We will spend the evening at an authentic local restaurant on the bank of the Nan River. Overnight in Nan.
(200 km/124 miles)
Leaving Nan behind we ride in western direction. The first stretch is over a small mountain range. You will just love the way the road snakes its way over hills and through valleys. On our way to Phayao, we pass endless villages. In Phayao we enjoy lunch by the lake.
From here we first follow the shore of the lake and then make our way towards the road leading to Mae Khachan and further to the nearby hot springs. Here you can dip your toes in the hot water. From here we have the last stretch to Chiang Mai and our Service Centre. Expect arrival by 5 pm, followed by the transfer to your hotel. Farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight in Chaing Mai.
(320 km/199 miles)
Your guided Thailand Motorcycle Tour ends with the transfer to the airport or your extension.
